Local History in year 6

This week in year six we have had a busy week exploring the rich history of Havering. We took a closer look at RAF Hornchurch and its fascinating contribution to WW2. We created some art, showcasing the famous spitfire at sunset over the Hornchurch fields.

4 Poplar - Library Trip

Image
On Monday, 4 Poplar went to Hornchurch Library to get familiar with our new local library. They even had the opportunity to each borrow a book and learned how to get their own library card for the Summer Reading Challenge!

Year 4 - Simple Machine Prototypes

Image
This week in Year Four, the children had the opportunity to create a prototype of a compound machine, incorporating two simple machines: a pulley and an inclined plane. They experimented with various materials and techniques to determine how best to construct a freestanding inclined plane. Through observation and discussion, Year Four came to the conclusion that thin cardboard was not a suitable material for this purpose. As a result, in our next lesson—when we will be constructing another simple machine—we plan to use thicker cardboard to improve the stability and effectiveness of the design.

A week in year 3

In year 3 this week, we had some amazing fun using the apparatus in PE, reenacted the last supper in RE and explored the properties of materials in DT.

Art in Year 5

As part of their unit of Expressionism, Year 5 had lots of fun choosing oil pastels colours to enhance the emotions expressed in a range of photos. They also experimented with overlaying text to heighten the effect of their images.
