Please take a look at some pictures from our Roman day in Year 4. Sorry they are a bit late going onto the blog but we have been having some technical issues, but I am glad to say they are all resolved now. Everyone made a great effort on the day, from dressing up to taking an active role in all of the fun activities. They got to see a play from the 'Freshwater Theatre Company' to deepen their understanding of the topic and they all came out saying how much fun it was. They also created coins, mosaics and a Roman shield.

Last week we had our WWI Day in Year Five. The Fresh Water Theatre Company visited in the morning and carried out a workshop with the children based on the experience of a soldier from that time. Other activities that children completed on the day included: WWI silhouette art,  drama performances (based around our book Private Peaceful) and  letters from Homefront to soldiers in the trenches. Year 3 learn about the artist Lubaina Himid

Image
This week the children were learning about the work of artist Lubaina Himid as part of Black History Month. Lubaina is a British artist, born in 1954, who moved from Zanzibar when she was just four months old. She was part of the Black Arts Movement in the 1980s. This movement included different black British artists trying to create opportunities and encourage other black artists to show their work. Lots of Lubaina Himid’s artworks are about the strength of black people throughout history.  The children looked at different pieces of Himid's artwork and then recreated one of the pieces using different materials.

Year 3 create cave paintings

Image
Year 3 used pastels to create some fabulous cave paintings this week.  This tied in with their topic 'Tribal Tales' and with the book they are reading 'Stone Age Boy'.  The children had been looking at the difference between primary and secondary evidence and how primary sources of evidence can provide us with information about the past.
