Year 5 go back into time!

Image
Year 5 took a journey back into Tudor time today. They have had a wonderful day learning about Tudor life. They learnt lots about Tudor food and were fascinated to learn that poor Tudor people had a diet of pottage and beer! They then had a go at weaving. The children will be bringing their weaves home so keep an eye out for their work! The children also learnt about Tudor medicine and what would happen to a Tudor child with a tummy ache! They also rubbed a sage leaf on their teeth for some minty fresh breath! Next, the children got to experience a Tudor classroom. They were glad to know the cane can’t be used in schools nowadays! The girls were horrified that Tudor girls would not have attended school. Finally, we finished the afternoon with a Tudor court. The children have had a truly fantastic day learning all about Tudor life! Thank you to all the parents for supporting t

Netball Match Squirrels Heath Junior School V La Salette On the 14 th   November 2019 the netball teams went to La Salette Primary School to compete in 2 matches; a friendly match and a Cup Match. Squirrels Heath Junior School won both of our matches. In the Cup Match we won 5:2 and for the friendly match, we won 2:0. In the friendly match, La Salette scored but the whistle had blown so the goal didn’t count. Before the match began, our shooters practised shooting so we would get a few hoops! At the end of the match we all gave three cheers for both schools and had a group selfie together. La Salette set up a stall with biscuits and juice for both netball teams. We had lots of fun at the match and are very happy that we won! By Milie M Sports Hall Athletics Year 5 and 6 On Wednesday 27 th   November I had the best day ever! Instead of going to school in the morning, 18 of us went to the Hornchurch Sport Centre. Everyone participated in 4 activities; 2 races and 2 fiel

Year 6 web designer visit

Image
Yesterday Year 6 were visited by a Web Design team from a local company, based in Romford. As the children have started a new topic called 'Tomorrow's World', it was thought that the children would benefit from a presentation about how companies choose a website and how it is designed. They learnt about how websites are searched for and what makes a website desirable. The children asked lots of questions and the team from Perfect Layout Digital Marketing commented on how good the children's questions were. The children can now use the knowledge they gained to help them when they design their own websites later in the term. Our visitors also agreed to judge which website was the best at the end of this topic. A year 6 boy said, 'I really liked today's visit because it is interesting and you never know it might inspire you to become a web designer!'

Birds of Prey

Image
This half term, Year 3 are studying the topic Predator! This week we had a visit from some birds of prey to help us to find out more about this type of predator. We got to meet a variety of birds of prey and learned many facts about them. Wordsworth the long-eared owl was only 6 months old! Fudge the barn owl flew right over our heads! Arizona the Harris hawk. Big Alice the eagle owl loved having her tummy tickled.  In the afternoon we became scientists and dissected owl pellets to see what they had been eating.  We found mouse and shrew skulls along with other bones.  It was a fantastic day and we learned so much!
