Netball Competition

On Thursday 7th November our Netball team competed in the Havering netball league playing a series of matches. We played three teams Benhurst, St Josephs and Upminster Junior. Each game was challenge, we needed to work as a team and try our hardest together. The first match was against Benhurst. It was evenly matched but in the first half Benhurst scored. At half time we changed around positons and then we scored. The match was a draw at 1-1. Match two was incredibly difficult as the goal keeper was tall and got ion the way of our shots however we managed to score a goal and the game finished 2-1 to Upminster Junior. The last match was against St Josephs, they were a great, great team with lots of skill and tall people. We made some mistakes and it ended up 6-1 to St Josephs. At the end of each game we did three cheers for the other team. We had a great afternoon playing netball and look forward to the next time we play. Written by Bill and Isobel

Junior bake off

Junior bake off A big thank you to all who took part in the Junior bake competition and cake sale. We were very impressed not only by the quantity of cakes sent in but also by the quality of some of the entries. It was very difficult to choose the winners. Thank you also to the many people who came into the hall after school to purchase some of the cakes. We hope you enjoyed them! We will let you know how much was raised once we receive a final total from FOSH.

The Havering Quartet Earlier this month, the whole school was treated to a live performance from the Havering Quartet. Our students had a wonderful time experiencing the sounds of the piano, violin, viola and tuba. They also learned more about pitch and how each instrument, and musician, works together during a performance. There were many smiling faces and lots of inquisitive questions asked. Hopefully, this has encouraged some of our scholars to start learning to play!

Year 5's Magical Journey Thorough Space!

Image
Yesterday, Year 5 were visited by a company who took them all through a magical journey through space! A 5 metre dome was set up in the hall and each year 5 class had the opportunity to take part in a workshop with Space enthusiast Paul Bishop. Upon entering the dome, children learnt about how the stars and the planets, researched more thoroughly into the life of Galileo and watched a video, learning weird and wonderful facts along the way. Alfie L. said "I didn't know there were 200 billion solar systems!"  Most of the children were amazed to find out that the Sun will swallow up Mercury, Venus and eventually Earth.  However, they were comforted by the fact that this was around 4 billion years away from happening!

⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ ‘On a sunny but cold day, Squirrels Heath Junior School's Football Team arrived in Rainham to play La Salette Primary School. The pitch was nice but quite small. Squirrels kicked off and opened with a strike by Harrison. Just before half time La Salette scored a good goal to even the figure. The second half was very eventful with four goals! Harrison scored the next two goals to make it 3:1 bu La Salette hit back with two goals of their own. The score at the end of normal time was 3:3. No further goals were scored in extra time so it went to penalties. Christopher made two great saves and our team scored four brilliant penalties which meant we won and we are through to the next round of the knock out cup! We will play the winner of the Engayne V Scotts Primary match. Well done Squirrels Heath Junior football team'. Thanks  By Tommy P

A lovely new addition to our outdoor facilities

Image
Pupils love our new pergola and storyteller area. Currently our pergola is being used by pupils to share big books at playtimes and lunchtimes. It also provides a quieter area for those that just want to sit and chat with their friends. We are all looking forward to the spring and summer months when we can use the space to enjoy lessons outside. This lovely new area was made possible using money raised through fundraising last year. Why not join us in raising money to fund our next big project in the quad area – our bio-dome! Together, we can continue to improve our facilities and make Squirrels Heath a fantastic place to learn and grow.

Anyone for Pizza?

Image
Pupils in the cookery club on Friday enjoyed a wonderful session making pizzas. Whilst some pupils chose to fully load their creations, others chose a select few ingredients – all looked incredibly yummy! A big thanks to Ms Carlucci and Mrs Wells for their help in running the club .
