Our Year 6 displays

Image
This week in Year 6 This week, the children in Year 6 have worked hard to create work for our school displays.   In English we have been reading a text set in Victorian London called 'Street Child'.  To kick off our topic on the Victorians, we had a visitor in to teach us about how school was run in the 19th Century.   In Science we have been learning about light and how it travels. In Art we have been practising our sketching skills and drawing some still life shells. Take a look at some of the work and activities we have been doing since we returned to school.

Its name derives from Japanese words ori (“folding”) and kami (“paper”). Traditional origami consists of folding a single sheet of square paper (often with a coloured side) into a sculpture without cutting, gluing, taping, o r even marking it.

This week, in year 4, we have been investigating Roman Numerals.  As well as being a very important mathematical skill it also links into our Roman history topic.  The children investigated numbers up to 100 in Roman Numerals and even answered some addition, subtraction and multiplication questions.

This week all the children in year 4 have been developing their postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance by taking part the pilates lessons.  As well as being great for their health the children have also had a lot of fun. Lily in 4Fir said "I like that we get to learn different poses and it is also relaxing." Over the remainder of the term all the children in Year 3 will continue to develop their skills and understanding of pilates.  This is also something that they can practice at home.  There are some great pilates videos for children on youtube of you want to give it a go!

Year 5 Trench Experience

This week has been memorable in Year 5. The students really enjoyed their History lesson were they continued exploring our Word War 1 topic, focussing on life in the trenches. We discussed key vocabulary including: No Man's Land, trench foot and mustard gas warfare. Our classrooms were transformed into horrific trenches and the children stepped into the shoes of soldiers at that time. Have a look at some of our pictures.

This week we had a fantastic day learning about life during the Victorian times.  Year 6 were visited by Freshwater Theatre who gave an insight into what school would have been like. We made our very own Zoetropes, name tags and William Morris themed wallpaper.   Well done Year 6!

Year 5 made the most of the hot weather in P.E. this week! We practised our sprinting by using skipping rope ladders in groups before having a competition to see which team could collect the most cones. We have also started Pilates this half term. We will be using different balances to make a scary movie themed sequence.
