Ancient Greece Day

On Wednesday 8th of May, Year 3 went back in time to Ancient Greece! The children came to school dressed up and ready for a day in the life of a child from Ancient Greece. The day began with a greeting from the Wise One, who told us about the conflict with Persia. In order to win the war, we needed to appease the gods by working hard to create objects. The morning was spent working at different stations and making offerings to the goddess Athena.

After this, we heard the story of King Midas who asked the gods for the ability to turn things to gold with a single touch. He soon discovered that this was not the gift he had thought it would be and accidentally turned his daughter to solid gold!

After lunch, we gathered in the hall again to receive our afternoon job roles. There were servants, dancers, singer and actors. We all went off to practise and then returned to the hall for the celebration. The servants passed around many interesting foods such as feta cheese, olives, dates, cake and apples. It was a fantastic feast! Throughout the feast, we were provided with entertainment, including stories of Odysseus and King Agamemnon.

At the end of the feast, we got word from Marathon that we had won the war against the Persians. Unfortunately, after his long run, our messenger collapsed!
