The grand opening of our new school Bio-dome.

Yesterday marked the beginning of Science Week in school and the grand opening of our new school Bio-dome. Everyone was really excited especially as we had a special visitor to help us celebrate - architect and television presenter (Amazing Spaces), Mr George Clarke.

George met with representatives from each class to conduct the ribbon cutting ceremony and then helped pupils with some planting inside the Bio-dome. When that was complete, George led an assembly with the rest of the school where he spoke about how he developed an interest in architecture and design and told pupils and staff about his early career. He then shared photos of some of the buildings that he helped to create and spoke about his passion for sustainable living.

Pupils had the opportunity to ask George a number of questions including what design features he was most pleased with in his own home and who were some of his early role models.

Lastly George set the pupils various challenges, including drawing a sketch of something everyday, watching a series on Netflix called “Abstract” and finding out more about how we can ensure that our homes are more environmentally friendly. Pupils may also be interested in watching an episode or two of Amazing Spaces on Channel 4.

We were very fortunate to have such an inspirational speaker and a wonderful launch to both Science Week and our Bio-dome. For those that are interested, there is an article in the Romford Recorder Online. We hope the article will also appear in the paper version on Friday.
