Year 6 World War Two Day!
On Monday, Year 6 had a very special day- WWII Day! During this day, all of us took part in exciting activities like drama, creating WWII related objects and much more!
Right at the beginning of the day, we all got to see each others wonderful outfits. Some people even decided to make their own accessories like gas mask boxes and identification cards. Not all children were evacuees as some people decided to dress up as other WWII people such as soldiers and land-girls.
For the first lesson we had to take the role of different people from WWII such as: councillors, a mother of an evacuee, a news reporter and finally an evacuee. Once we had sorted out our characters the news reporter had to ask some questions to each of the characters. After we had completed that task, we had to make quotes for every character for a future English lesson.
After our break, we started a drama activity in the hall where we was greeted by a visitor. Firstly, we started acting out different scenarios that would happen in WWII. For example one group acted out people lying on a train station floor during an air raid. Also, the visitor taught us all about different areas in WWII like rationing and blackouts and gas masks- she told us even there was a specific gas mask for toddlers.
In the afternoon, we had a lesson all about WWII. Each table had a different task that we would complete. One table was all about Blackouts and for that task we had to test different materials for blackouts. There were also many other activities for us to do such as create a WWII notebook.
Overall, WWII was a very good day to experience and it was very fun!
