STEM Club

This half-term in STEM club we welcomed back some club members from last term and a few new members.

In week 1 we worked on making a cotton ball launcher, which used elastic bands for the spring, 2 cardboard tubes, tape, a single hole punch, a pencil and obviously a cotton ball. When the cotton ball didn’t launch properly the children worked through some solutions to the problem and adapted the design so that eventually they were successful!

WEEK 2 - Stacking cup challenge
The children had to make a gripping device using 4 pieces of string and an elastic band to enable them to pick up the cups and stack them in top of each other. There was lots of team work and perseverance needed for this challenge!

WEEK 4 - Pop up cards

The children experienced making pop up cards for someone special in their life. They learnt about using templates and how to cut a folded piece of card which allowed a piece to ‘pop’ out from the centre. Some also learnt how to stick multiple shapes together to create a 3D effect.
