VE Happy.

Squirrels Heath Junior School had a marvellous day celebrating and commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day. As well as understanding the day’s significance in British history and researching how it was celebrated back in 1945, children danced the Lindy-Hop and sang wartime classics.

To top the day off, we were all treated to a marvellous film presented by one of our own children. In it, she interviews her grandfather, who tells her all about VE Day, his own personal experiences of rationing and tells the story of his beloved uncle who sadly died whilst a prisoner of war in the Pacific. Many artefacts shown in the film were also on display in the library and children were able to touch pieces of history which truly made history come alive for them.

The film was such a passion project and special thanks must go to the whole family who were all involved in its creation and also kindly donated the artefacts. The day would not have been the same without your contributions.
