A great VE Day interview by Erin in year 3.

Today I was so impressed with Erin's (3 Poplar) interesting and imaginative piece on V.E. Day that I felt I must share it. She has chosen to conduct an interview with her Great Nan who celebrated the first V.E. Day as a young woman in 1946. In doing this, Erin has shown not only a sensitivity to the primary sources which are used as part of historical research but in preparing questions which are both relevant and informative for her interview, she has demonstrated research skills which are well beyond her years. All this is in addition to the technical aptitude and creativity she has shown in this impressive piece of work. Well done Erin. This is outstanding. Miss C

There are 25 triangles present in the picture – 24 from shapes created by the various lines, as demonstrated below, and one made by the ‘A’ in the artist’s signature. And you might even say there are 26 hidden there, because the word ‘Triangle’ is also written on the image.

A message from Mrs Marshall about SATs

Good Morning all I did post a message yesterday but for some reason it hasn't appeared - I haven't forgotten you!! This week should have been the week you all sat your SAT's tests - I for one am very sad about that as I know you have all worked very hard and you deserved an opportunity to show us that - you would have made us very proud! However it is not to be but you should all know how proud we are of how you are working, particularly in this difficult time. Mrs Sharma found this poem which we would like to share with you all. Keep up the good work Year 6!! As SATS week arrives, it is not quite the same, The tests that were printed this year never came, The displays are still up; walls full of maths ‘rules’, But Year 6 is very different, right now in schools. For some of you, happiness, lots of relief, For others a sigh of pure disbelief, That you worked really hard in advance of this week, Expected and Greater Depth marks you did seek. Place value, fractions, the times ...

VE Day

Image
Today the children spent time thinking about VE Day and what this day is for. We then considered what it would be like to be a war time child and what past times the children in this era would have had. The children were shocked to realise that there would have been no electronic games during the war! Shock horror! With this in mind, the children designed, and have started to make, their own Puppet Theatres. Here's what we have so far...
