3 Poplar’s walking tour

Image
Today we went on a tour of the local area to explore how the land is used…we found recreational use, commercial use, residential use, transportation links and even a conservation area! We spent a little extra time “researching” the recreational playground! 😁 We also saw how the area has some patches of land for us to think about…how can we use the field and the area outside the train station better? ⁉️

Year 6: English!

Image
Our writing lessons are based around our text ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ which is set around the time of World War 2. So in our most recent writing lessons, we focused on propaganda. We looked at what it meant and why it was (and still is!) used. Children looked at different propaganda posters and tried to work out what the messages behind them were. They then went on to create their own propaganda pieces, persuading mothers to allow their children to be evacuated. Great work Year 6!

Squirrels at the London Marathon

Image
Congratulations to all pupils who took part in the mini London marathon. It was lovely to have our school so well represented on the day! All pupils taking part ran the mile-long course,  some of them being accompanied by family members or classmates. Upon completion of the race, participants received a medal. When asked about the experience, all of the children who took part said that they had a fantastic time and couldn’t wait to take part again next year! Squirrels Heath also had representation in the adult marathon. Mrs Chappell, our office manager, ran the twenty-six mile course to raise money for Crohn’s and Colitis UK. This was the second time she completed the London marathon, crossing the finish line in 5 hours, 1 minute and forty-six seconds, a personal best. We are so proud of all our Squirrels and we hope that they inspire even more people in our community (children and adults) to take part next year! Go Squirrels go!

Tri-Golf Tournament

A team of eight, Year 3 and 4 children, had a fun-filled afternoon learning some golf skills. There were 8 different skill based activities, which were manned by some of our local secondary school children. They instructed and encouraged the children throughout the activities.  Overall, 18 schools competed and Squirrels Heath were recognised for their high score during the ‘Dominoes’ activity.  Well done everyone! 😀
